Kiki's Safe Haven Permanent Residents
Our permanent residents are dogs whose health or behavioral issues are so fragile i do not feel comfortable placing them up for adoption ( In the case of Obi, Lily Rose and Andy they are my original dogs whom i adopted). In the case of our permanent residents i have those who bite, those in palliative care and those requiring enormous veterinary care which is made possible by the help of Blayney vet clinic who look after our residents Veterinary needs. Financially Kiki's Safe Haven is carried by myself as we are not a registered charity, heart and arthritis medications as well as ongoing veterinary treatments run into the thousands and thousands each year. My family also play a massive role in supporting me and my gang. As you can imagine palliative care is not for the faint hearted and my heart is broken regularly, sometimes i think beyond repair, but then another little oldie will dodder in and they help it to mend. These dogs are my family and i am grateful for whatever time i may have with them and we make the most of everyday. I hope you enjoy a brief meeting of each of our residents and can see how special each little one is.
Hope
My little love, previously my friends dog she came to live with me and the pack and boy do we love her. She has the same genetic condition as Pip and was born blind. We have a strong cuddly bond haha!
we need eachother

Pippin
The sweetest good boy i know! Pip nakes me laugh everyday and is my constant shadow. He was born with underdevloped eyes a condition called micro-opthalmia and has never been able to see. He is very smart and his hearing is great and at home you would think he has sight! Suki and i are his eyes and he has become my world in return and everyday is fun.
Morris
My big boy was originally rescued as a litter of puppies and adopted to a lovely family, but 5 years later i get the call he is depressed and growling, snapping and their child and bit their friend.
He came to live with us and thrives on routine and i quickly decided i could not rehome him as he does have an unpredictable streak. Typical cattledog nature! He has anxiety meds and supplements but the main improvement was through training! Building his confidence and creating a bond between the two of us which in turn helps him to feel secure. We are very bonded and i love him so much.

Suki
My baby girl.... i saw her face online as a farmer was giving her away due to her being a terrible sheep dog and my heart skipped a beat....she looked like Obi. I msg the farmer and went to pick her up and to my surprise her temperment was very much like him too. Serious and gentle and smart. She had never lived in a house so everything was new, we became great friends and i love her so. She is different but having her beautiful, familiar face around is so lovely. I adore her.
Rio
Rio is an 8 year old Chinese Crested Dog, he has come all the way from Alice Springs. Rio is a permanent resident as he has behavioral issues which include aggression with strangers, we do training everyday and supplement this with adaptil pheromone spray, thunder shirt's, rescue remedy and socialisation out side and inside of the home. Every day he comes to work with me and he love's it! Rio also suffers seperation anxiety, so it really is quite a lot of work to keep him balanced and happy, but to see him rolling around and playing, giving smoochy kisses and sleeping by my head every night is glorious to see, however any changes to his routine upset's him greatly.
He is in great health and we are so glad to have him join the gang at Kiki's Safe Haven.

Cricket
Miss Cricket! aka Miss Cranky Pants, Again was rescued from a breeder who sprayed her and other dogs with a hose when they barked and she lived in a cage. Due to all this, Cricket is a nervy little minx It is all due to lack of socialization with human's and she is quite an anxious little dog when strangers are around, however she does love me with a fierce passion and the old gang too, so we will continue to socialize her and let her know not everyone is bad and scary. She has terrible dentition and actually had to have her bottom teeth filed down a tad as they were pressing into the top of her mouth and causing ulceration, she is much more comfy now and feeling more confident every day. After many years she has now had to have all teeth removed. She has a curvature to her spine and has pain relief abd supplements daily.
Andy
Andy has been with me since he was 5 weeks old and is the sookiest Lala out, he is also the gentlest dog i have ever met, he is super sensitive, and if you ever see toys in my picture's they are his (he has a toybox and we are now up to about 50 toys) he was rescued from some scary people and ended up staying put! As he is now nearly 14 he has developed a significant heart murmur and cough and is now on heart medication which makes me wonder how that time flew by.
I love him with all my heart and soul, my gentle giant. |
Peanut Piccolo
Peanut Piccolo is a very sweet and affectionate boy with strange behaviours! He has a lesion on his spine resulting in neurological issues and lifts his legs up very high when he walks. He has a severe once or twice a year and is a very delicate little man. He is not on any medication at this stage and we monitor him very closely for any changes. He did have a short course of cortisone after his seizure as he was very disorientated, he was then back to normal (normal for peanut anyway!) He loves his girls and idolizes Andy and Morris and follows him everywhere if not snuggled up with the girls. Peanut was available for adoption through AWL western Suburbs but we decided to keep him in care as a permanent resident as his condition can deteriorate quite quickly. We love Peanut!! He is my little buddy and although he is a little quirky we all are at Kiki's Safe Haven and were more than happy to offer him a permanent resident spot.
